Ever have one of those days where you just want to slam your desk and scream at your boss? GORN on Meta Quest is the perfect virtual cure. This physics-based gladiator simulator lets you blow off steam by unleashing absolute havoc in a blood-soaked arena. With a massive arsenal of wobbly, bone-crunching weapons and a hilarious “gorilla-style” movement system, it is hands-down the best stress-relief action game in VR. Here is my full breakdown of the brutal combat mechanics, the endless waves of goofy enemies, and how to turn on the “Violence Reduction Mode” if you want to let the kids play.
Game Introduction
From eight in the morning, I’m getting ordered around and yelled at nonstop, working without a break. Even when it’s past quitting time, I can’t say I’m leaving… it seriously makes me want to scream at the top of my lungs.
That’s just daily life as a salary worker. I keep listening to my boss’s pointless instructions and demands, do exactly what I’m told, and when things fall apart, suddenly it’s “you’re not capable enough,” “you lack execution,” “your attitude is bad.” Give me a break.
Don’t I ever want to slam my desk as hard as I can and yell straight back at my boss? Tell me that urge hasn’t crossed my mind.

I want to do it… but I can’t.
I can’t take it out on my wife or my kids when I get home. So I just keep everything inside, force it down, and let the fatigue stack up day after day.
That’s when I close the door to my room and fire up GORN on Meta Quest. I swing a spiked mace and smash everything in sight, and most of that stress blows away instantly. And if that’s still not enough, I grab a flail and go again.
By the time I take the headset off, I’m calm enough to fall asleep with a grin. The next day, I’m moving again like nothing happened.
The movement system is insanely fun. I press the A and X buttons on each hand and swing my arms hard backward, and the recoil launches my body forward. It feels like a gorilla pushing off the ground with its arms, and the first time I tried it, I literally went “oh damn.”
- A / X buttons: grab the ground and move forward (gorilla-style movement)
- Trigger: clench my fist and punch
- Grip button: grab objects (weapons, enemies, even their shins)
- B / Y buttons: taunt enemies with a “come at me,” pure spectacle

Press the B and Y buttons with both hands to strike a “yeah!” pose at your enemies.

The game flow is extremely simple. Everything takes place in a single arena, with a king watching from above, enjoying the bloodshed. If you win, the king is pleased. That’s it.
So there’s no need to hesitate. Grab a weapon and start smashing.
And somehow, no matter where you go, there’s always a manager or company owner up on the castle walls, looking down on you with that smug attitude…

You can choose as many weapons as you like. Fists, spiked maces, flails, axes, shields, longswords, claws, nunchaku, bows—use whatever you feel like. There’s no need to think. Grab a spiked mace and slam it down. If someone ticks you off, don’t hesitate—just swing. The harder the swing, the bigger the damage.
- Smash an enemy’s legs and they snap with a crack, blood spraying everywhere.
- Punch them in the face and it swells up instantly, sending them charging at you in a rage.
- Crush a head with a spiked mace and it shatters completely, the body collapsing slowly like the power just got cut.
- Bring a longsword straight down and the enemy splits clean in half—it’s satisfying just to watch.
- Slice a neck with claws and it’s gone in an instant, a pillar of blood shooting up into the air.
Enemies keep coming in waves, one after another, with no end in sight. Some wear leather armor or full plate, so you have to smash the armor first before cracking their skulls.
They’re incredibly dumb, often punching each other by accident. If things start looking rough, just sprint around the arena at full speed and let them chase you. In the end, it’s a contest of who gets tired first.
The arena is completely packed with enemies.

There are three combat modes.
- Berserker: defeat a set number of enemies to clear the stage.
- General: fight using a specified weapon.
- Custom: free play where you can go wild however you like.
Spiked mace in your left hand, flail in your right—swing them both at the same time, and the fun just never stops.

Official Description
GORN is a VR gladiator simulator that cranks stupidity and violence to the absolute limit. It’s developed by Free Lives, the studio behind Broforce and Genital Jousting, and runs on a unique full physics-based combat engine. That means you get to unleash blood-soaked gladiator combat in VR as brutally as you want.
Swords, flails, bows, nunchaku, throwing knives, massive two-handed war hammers—and even your own bare, blood-covered fists. Use anything you can to mercilessly smash the endlessly spawning, awkwardly animated enemies. The only things that can stop this slaughter are your imagination and whatever’s left of your conscience.
It’s fair to call this one of the most savage, brutal “VR face-smashing games” ever made.
If cracking skulls with GORN’s spiked mace still doesn’t feel like enough, you can start hurling throwing knives—or go completely wild by rampaging around in a robot instead.
These two must-play action games are absolutely worth checking out, so don’t miss them.
