Game Introduction

Man, I really need to start moving my body again…

Lately my blood pressure’s been creeping up, my blood sugar won’t stay stable, and every time I see the doctor it’s the same line: “I’ll prescribe the meds, just make sure you actually take them.” Yeah, I know jogging would help, but the air outside is trash lately, and I just can’t bring myself to run in it.

The gym’s got great equipment, sure, but it’s way too far from home. Just thinking about going out already feels like a chore. At this rate, this body shape… yeah, it’s honestly getting pretty bad.

What really gets me is how my coworkers have started smiling at me a little too kindly. Someone even started calling me “Snorlax.” That one hit a little too close to home. I keep thinking, if I could just move a bit at home, maybe things wouldn’t be this bad.

That’s where Meta Quest’s VR sports game Eleven Table Tennis comes in. You can get some real movement in, right at home, without overthinking it.

Gugu and Mengmeng trade fast rallies, sweat flying as they play. Laughing, Mengmeng calls out, “Hey, slow down a bit!” VRPUPU sits on a chair watching, with the atmosphere feeling just like a real table tennis hall.

Put on the headset, grab the controllers, and make sure you pick the US flag.

On the Eleven Table Tennis nationality selection screen, choosing the United State flag to join the Asian league.

A table tennis table pops right up in front of you. First you’re doing drills like dropping the ball into a cup, then returning shots to the other side with your paddle. Stuff like this is easy. Total warm-up.

In the Eleven Table Tennis serve practice screen, the game clearly teaches how to toss the ball, how to hit it, and where it needs to land to follow the rules.

In table tennis, your serve has to toss the ball at least 16 cm upward or it’s a fault, and you can’t strike it right next to the table. Also, the serve has to bounce once on each side. That’s a basic rule you should learn early.

The paddle in your hand is incredible. You can hit drives, smashes, cuts, even drop shots just like with a real table tennis racket.

During matches, you can turn on always-on voice chat in the settings, so if you get matched with someone friendly, you might end up chatting between rallies. And if your opponent is way too strong… then it’s full distraction mode. Just keep talking and try to throw off their focus.

You’re rallying with players from all over the world without leaving home. From shorter players overseas to skilled opponents, you take them on one after another. Once you grip the paddle, the match is on. Today, I’m the ace from the US.

That guy on the other side… the way he plays has this oddly stylish vibe.
I asked, “Do you understand what I’m saying?” and he nodded.

Then I tried again. “I seriously can’t beat you, go a little easy on me.”
He just shook his head full force.

Where do you even rate this game?
I swear, I want to drop a low rating on him right now…

In an Eleven Table Tennis ranked match, the opposing player appears as a virtual avatar standing beside the table, ready to compete.

The next opponent looks like a total newbie. Can’t even get a proper serve in.
I’m thinking, “Oh, this one’s a free win,” and then… I lose.

I had the upper hand early on, but in the second half I got completely pushed back. Looks like they just improved a little faster than I did.

Opponent switches again, and this time it’s a small girl.
Her voice is super sweet, and just rallying back and forth with her is already a blast.

And then after she wins, she starts dancing.
Who even does that? Come on… wow.

I send a friend request and figure I’ll invite her to doubles next time.
That way I’ll have a cute teammate watching my back.

The Eleven Table Tennis main menu screen shows options for Single Player, Multiplayer, and Training Mode.

The amount of physical movement in this game is almost the same as real table tennis. You’re moving side to side, chasing down balls, firing off smashes… you’re actually using your whole body.

After about five minutes, you start feeling warm, and after just two matches, you’re guaranteed to be drenched in sweat.

Being able to play table tennis at home is already amazing, but the fact that it feels this real and this fun just takes it to another level.

The Highlights

  • It really feels like you’re standing face to face with a friend, playing table tennis together.
  • The moment you put on the headset, you’re already in a table tennis hall.
  • It’s a reliable go-to when you want to get some exercise, and you can chat with your opponent while rallying back and forth.
  • Some people even break into a little victory dance after they win, and honestly, it just makes you laugh watching them.

The Drawbacks

  • Even though it’s supposed to be a beginner match, the way I got wrecked was bad enough to make me want to throw the paddle.
