Ever wonder why some VR games make you dizzy while others feel perfectly fine? It all comes down to a simple sensory mismatch: your eyes tell your brain you are moving fast, but your physical body knows it is standing still. To help you navigate our game reviews safely, we created the VRPUPU VR Motion Sickness Level Chart. In this quick guide, we break down our five tier rating system, from completely comfortable stationary experiences to extreme high speed action. Check our criteria before buying your next game, and discover a simple standing trick that can instantly reduce your VR nausea.

VR Game Motion Sickness Level Chart

Motion Sickness LevelCategoryTypical SymptomsCommon Game Types
🌀No motion sicknessNo discomfort at all. You can play for over an hour straight.Standing-in-place games
Examples: Maestro / Beat Saber
🌀🌀Low SicknessSlight heaviness in the head, occasional urge to close your eyes.Stationary shooters / puzzle / rhythm games
Example: A Fisherman’s Tale
🌀🌀🌀Moderate motion sicknessUncomfortable when movement is fast or turns are frequent.Teleport movement / slow free movement
Examples: I Am Cat, Ghost City
🌀🌀🌀🌀High SicknessSweating, nausea, frequent breaks needed.Free movement with rapid camera changes / shooters
🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀Extreme SicknessYou want to take the headset off within 3 minutes. Dizziness, nausea, full-body discomfort.High-freedom action / climbing / jumping / flying / roller coasters

Generally speaking, if a game is rated 🌀🌀🌀 or below, most people can play it without any issues, so it’s usually safe to buy with confidence.

Once you get into 🌀🌀🌀🌀 territory or higher, it’s more on the motion-sickness-prone side. In that case, it’s a good idea to test yourself first with the free game Rollercoaster VR. Don’t narrow or block your field of view. If you can play for over 10 minutes like that, you’ll probably be fine with most intense games.

Here’s a small tip that actually helps a lot. Try playing while standing instead of sitting. Your body naturally makes small movements, and that alone can noticeably reduce motion sickness.
